Girls in Aerospace & Defence: STEM Program at RMIT University
About the Initiative
Girls in Aerospace & Defence is an RMIT University, Boeing Australia, Thales, Swoop Aero, Sypaq, Australian Army Drone Racing Team, Leonardo Australia, and Aviation/Aerospace Australia co-sponsored initiative addressing the persistent gender gap across science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. It prepares students from underrepresented populations to enter university and the workplace with increased confidence and capability.
Initiative Details
Participants: 20 girls (maximum – open to all Victorian secondary school girls)
Dates: Monday, 23 - Saturday, 28 January 2023
Duration: 5 days
Location: RMIT University Bundoora Campus
Students will:
- Design, build, and race drones for prizes
- Attend lectures, and tour RMIT University’s world leading facilities (advanced manufacturing precinct, composites manufacturing and testing laboratory, instrumented wind tunnel, and immersive flight simulation system
- Sit inside the cockpit of a PC9 Aircraft
- Visit aerospace companies; Boeing Australia, Sypaq Systems, Swoop Aero and Thales Australia
- Receive tickets to the Australian International Airshow 2023
Application process:
- Tell RMIT University in 500 words (max) why you should be selected for the program or record yourself telling us why you should be selected for the program (2 min max)
