The Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia VIC Summit will take place on 18 October at the RACV City Club, Melbourne, bringing together public, private, civil and defence sectors to move the needle on gender diversity. These summits are designed to facilitate change in our industry to a more diverse and gender inclusive workforce. In order to achieve this shift, senior executives and change makers are encouraged to attend. Book now to join your team on their journey to gender equality and see how you can make a difference.

Women in A/AA is pleased to release the final program and topics for the upcoming 9th Summit and is setting a challenge to industry: If your table consists of four women and four men you will receive two additional complimentary seats at your table for one additional woman and one additional man. Only in working together will we achieve the changes we seek to see. We welcome and invite our male champions of change who share the same desire and determination to see change in our industry, to participate in moving the needle on gender diversity.

Jamila Rizvi is an author, presenter and political commentator

Jamila writes a twice-weekly column for News Limited about politics, gender and parenting. She is an accomplished host and commentator, appearing regularly on The Project, The Drum and The Today Show. Jamila’s first book Not Just Lucky, which is a career manifesto for millennial women, was published by Penguin in June 2017. Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard has called it, ‘feisty and inquisitive, a fresh take on modern feminist issues.’ Jamila’s second book, an anthology of essays about motherhood, will be released in 2018. In 2014 Jamila was named one of Cosmopolitan’s 30 Most Successful Women Under 30 and in 2015, was listed as one of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence by the Australian Financial Review.

Lockheed Martin supported mentee spaces: Women in A/AA is pleased to announce 30 spaces will be made available with the aim of inspiring the next generation of female aviation professionals to select a career in aviation or continue to pursue their studies and feel connected with the industry. This includes full day attendance at the summit, including all meals and sessions with the cost covered by Lockheed Martin. Applications for complimentary mentee attendance must be submitted directly to Tamara Bell after a paid booking has been made via the A/AA website. Limit of two (2) mentee spots are available per table booking and limit of one (1) mentee space per individual bookings.

Mentee applications will be assessed on the below requirements and accepted on a first received basis. Please email [email protected] addressing the four points below.

Must be attending with a paid (professional) ticket  - please provide name of booking 

Provide details of the course/school enrolled (attach proof of enrolment) 

Provide 30 words on your career aim – why are you interested in aviation and which career role are you pursing 

Provide 30 words on the relationship between the mentor and the mentee (ensure the mentor is listed in point one and has purchased and paid for summit a ticket) Please note it does not need to be a formal mentee relationship.

Age limit: 15 – 24 (Exceptions can be made for those already in the industry and already undertaking the training process of transitioning to a technical role)
