WA/AA International Women's Day Virtual Breakfast 2022

This year’s International Women's Day theme is #BreakTheBias, which speaks to the many facets of experience for women, especially in the aviation, aerospace and space sector.

Join Women in A/AA on 9 March as we listen to our panel of of diverse speakers speak to their experiences throughout their exceptional careers. 

In line with this year's theme, we invite you to hear from prominent change-makers who are looking to make meaningful impact for women across the sector.

Our IWD Breakfast will be run virtually the day following IWD 2022 globally, to allow everyone access to these incredible presenters.

MODERATOR
/ Sarah McSwiney
| Strategy and Operations Manager, Office of the Chief Engineer at Boeing Defence Australia, and Chair at Aviation/Aerospace Australia 

Sarah McSwiney is the Senior Manager of Strategy and Operations for the Office of the Chief Engineer at Boeing Defence Australia.

Prior to this Sarah held various engineering and management roles for the past 16 years at Boeing, most recently as the Composites Technology Manager at Boeing Research and Technology Australia, leading a team in Resin Infusion material and process development and helping guide the Enterprise Resin Infusion Roadmap. Sarah previously led the liaison engineering team across all programs at Boeing Aerostructures Australia, and prior to that she worked as a design engineer and an liaison Engineer both in Melbourne and Seattle. 

A graduate of the Australian Institute of Company directors, Sarah is also the Deputy Chair of Kilvington Grammar and is on the industry advisory boards for Aerospace Engineering at both Monash and RMIT Universities. Sarah holds an Executive MBA from Monash University and a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering (Hons) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. 
Sarah is passionate about gender equality and encouraging more young women into the fabulous Australian Aviation and Aerospace industry.

#BreakTheBias INDUSTRY PANEL
/ Stephanie Tully
| Group Chief Customer Officer at Qantas Airways Limited, and Non-Executive Director at Aviation/Aerospace Australia 

Stephanie Tully was appointed Group Chief Customer Officer in August 2019, following a 15-year career at the Qantas Group spanning operational, commercial, customer experience, marketing and strategy roles across the airline and loyalty businesses. 

As Group Chief Customer Officer, Stephanie is responsible for all aspects of the customer experience and strategy across the Group including digital, customer products such as lounges and inflight experience, and customer care operations. She’s also responsible for the Qantas brand, marketing and sponsorships. Stephanie was appointed as a Board Director of Aviation Aerospace Australia in September 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Melbourne


/ Stephanie McCulloch | Aerospace Engineer, LIFLMO at BAE Systems Australia 

Steph is in her third year of work as an Aerospace Engineer with BAE Systems Australia (BAES-A), currently based in Newcastle working on the Hawk Lead-In Fighter platform.

Last year she was awarded Graduate Community Service Graduate of The Year, after being consistently involved in STEM outreach activities from her first year in university; supporting the younger generation is one of her greatest passions.

Steph is also part of the BAES-A ‘Technically Possible’ podcast team currently going for Gold at the BAE Chairman’s Awards, and last year had the opportunity to meet The Hon Scott Morrison MP at the 2021 induction of the F-35 aircraft at Williamtown, NSW, citing the importance of job security for all in the region. Steph recognises IWD as being an opportunity for women to be supported, recognised and encouraged to continue to work in their field with enthusiasm.

/ Dr Daniel Edgington-Mitchell | Course Director, Aerospace Engineering at Monash University 

Dr. Daniel Edgington-Mitchell received his PhD from Monash University in 2013, spending 18 months at Stanford through a Fulbright Fellowship during his candidature. 

He is now Course Director for Aerospace Engineering, and the Faculty Chair for Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity at Monash University. Daniel is a member of Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia, a founding member of the Women in Fluid Mechanics Subcommittee of the Australasian Fluid Mechanics Society, and a member of Monash's Athena Swan Committee. He is husband to Dr. Laura Edgington-Mitchell, a laboratory head at the University of Melbourne specializing in chemical biology, and father to two young children.

/ Flight Lieutenant Em | Pilot at they Royal Australian Air Force

FLTLT Em joined the Australian Defence Force in 2011 as a General Service Officer in the Army. She graduated from the Australian Defence Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Aviation before undertaking her Army officer training at the Royal Military College – Duntroon.

She was then posted to the Australian Army Aviation Corps to undertake her pilot training, where she was given the opportunity to transition to the Royal Australian Air Force to attempt fast jet training. FLTLT Em earned her pilot wings in 2016 and graduated fast jet conversion on the F-A/18 A/B Classic Hornet in December 2017. 

She was posted to 77 Squadron along with one other woman, together they are the first two Australian women to become fighter pilots. After the retirement of the Classic Hornet FLTLT Em posted to East Sale and is now a Qualified Flying Instructor at No 1 Flying Training School.
