Professional Development "Futuristic Series" #1

Thu 27 Apr 2017 (6:00 pm - 8:00 pm)
Aviation/Aerospace Australia
Level 16, 356 Collins Street, MELBOURNE VIC 3000

Welcome to the first futuristic themed Professional Development session.  This will be the first of the series of workshops focussed on future trends in the aviation and aerospace industries.

Secure one of ten exclusive seats with Laurence Beraldo, New Technologies Manager, TAE to hear about how you can boost the productivity of your technical teams using Assisted Reality (AsR).

TAE understands the requirements of the aerospace, aviation and defence industries and have developed a tool to significantly boost the productivity and capability of technical teams. Using fountx reduces maintenance downtime while improving accuracy, quality and safety performance. By projecting knowledge from expert to technician in an assisted reality environment that mirrors natural interaction, fountx helps perform any maintenance task quickly and safely.

AsR leverages the benefits of augmented reality (AR), where sensory inputs such as sound and graphics are overlaid on real world environments. It also harnesses the power of ‘near eye displays’ to communicate remotely using telepresence applications. The assisted reality technology in fountx relies on advanced human-computer interactions (HCI) and human factors research by CSIRO to allow the technology to effectively ‘get out of the way’ of the user, giving them the spatial awareness they need to get the job done safely. This makes fountx a smart choice for complex industrial settings where safety is paramount.

Unlike wearable technology designed for entertainment or the consumer market, fountx is purpose built for use in complex industrial environments.

Laurence joined TAE in June 2016 to head up the development and delivery of TAE’s advanced technical product lines as well as enhance TAE’s senior leadership team. Prior to taking up this role he was contracted to lead the successful implementation into Australia of flight operations and maintenance services for global pilot training organisation, Airways Aviation which is based in Oxford, UK and operating across 14 countries.

During his 30 year career across the aerospace and defence industries Laurence has held several executive positions including positions on advisory panels with CASA and within the education and training sector of the Aviation Industry.

Laurence was the CEO and Company Secretary for the Royal Queensland Aero Club (RQAC) group of companies where he was the CASA approved Air Operator Certificate appointee and accountable manager for the Airline Academy of Australia. Prior to taking on the role as CEO he headed up aircraft maintenance engineering operations and training. He was formerly an executive manager with Aviation Australia where he worked for 10 years and held a number of senior roles including responsibility for flight safety training, Group Training compliance and operations, business development, international client management and the employment outcomes of more than 1,200 aircraft maintenance engineering graduates. Laurence is trained and qualified in aviation maintenance engineering and management, holds a pilot’s licence, had a 14 year career with the RAAF and managed a family business. He is well respected by senior industry leaders across all sectors of aviation as well as being well connected within State and Federal vocational education & training arenas.
