Paroma DunbarAustralian Industry Capability (AIC) Specialist at Hanwha Defence Australia & National Committee Member at Women in Aviation Aerospace Australia

Paroma Dunbar has recently landed the role of Australian Industry Capability (AIC) Specialist at Hanwha Defence Australia. In this role, she is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of industrial activities.

Prior to joining Hanwha, Paroma has held roles across the Australian defence and aerospace industries, particularly with the Space Industry Association of Australia and Defence Victoria (State Government of Victoria) and currently serves as a national committee member for Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia and the Defence Liaison and Business Development Specialist for the Canadian Australian Chamber of Commerce Victorian Committee.

Paroma is a dual Australian and Canadian national with an Executive Certificate as part of the Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program with the International Space University (2022), a Graduate Certificate in Space Operations at UNSW Canberra (2021), a Master’s degree in International Relations at University of Melbourne (2016), and a dual Bachelors’ degree from Carleton University in musicology / music performance, and political science.

Paroma is happily married with two children and a third on the way. When not at work, she enjoys spending her time with her family, baking, and cheering on the Sydney Swans and Toronto Raptors.

Fiona CarterEarly Careers Portfolio Lead at Nova Systems & Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia Queensland Sub-Committee


Fiona Carter is an Aerospace Engineer, and has had various engineering roles under that broad umbrella. She spent her the start of her career at TAE Aerospace supporting our RAAF and Army Tank engines as a Propulsion Engineer and Test Cell Engineer.  She later delved into Project Management and delivered a Test Cell Upgrade to the Royal Malaysian Air Force Adour Test Cell in Kuantan, Malaysia. Consulting for Nova Systems led Fiona to work with the Airbus team as a Systems Engineer to deliver a helicopter gun mount.  Fiona has always had a passion for fostering the uptake of STEM in schools and universities, and now as a mother of two young children she works in the People Team at Nova Systems as an Early Careers Lead, supporting Nova’s young professionals identify and realise their potential to reach their career goals.

Salim is an aviation professional and a sessional lecturer at the School of Aviation at Swinburne University. Salim has over a decade of experience in the aviation industry, including leadership roles within the airport environment and several years working for Jetstar as an Operations Controller and Airport Improvement Specialist.

Salim is currently working on a aviation focussed PhD research project under the Victorian Hydrogen Hub (VH2) at Swinburne University.  The main focus of this project is to examine the integration of Advanced Air Mobility Aircraft into an existing airport. His project examines vertiport infrastructure, air traffic management, and the application of hydrogen. Salim is building a simulation model to test his hypotheses.

Salim is also pursuing a graduate research and innovation management certificate and obtaining his remote pilot license. Before his research, he completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) with Distinction and an MBA. Salim is passionate about imparting his knowledge of airline and airport operations and risk management to management and piloting students.

Salim enjoys spending time with his family when he is not working, pursuing his passion for photography, volunteering at church and flying the newly installed A320 simulator at Swinburne University. He is also a member of the executive committee of Essendon Royals, a semi-professional soccer club.

Manatsawee (San) Limprapuwiwattana, PhD student at RMIT University & Research Engineer Intern at QuickStep

Manatsawee (San) is a research engineer intern at Quickstep currently developing the braiding technology for aerospace applications as a part of the APR Internship programme, jointly funded by the Defence Science Institute (DSI). Concurrently, he is in the final stages of completing his PhD in aerospace engineering at RMIT University, with an expected completion date by the end of 2024. 

San's journey to Melbourne began in 2016; prior to this, he grew up in Bangkok amidst four sisters. He got inspired to get into the industry by his father who worked as a flight attendant for nearly 40 years with his mother and sisters being so supportive of his decision to pursue his study and career in Aerospace Engineering. San holds bachelor's degrees in Aerospace Engineering from both RMIT University and Kasetsart University, along with a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Monash University. His expertise revolves around 3D reinforced composite materials, leveraging shape memory alloy wire to enhance the structural and functional properties of composites as a part of his PhD thesis. As a highly collaborative researcher, San has collaborated with organisations such as NCCUK, QinetiQ, DSTG, University of Surrey, Swinburne University, and Deakin University. His research interests also extend to Additive Manufacturing, Sustainability in Aviation, and Digital Twin in composite materials and manufacturing. 

Outside his working time, San enjoys exploring Melbourne's culinary scene and loves photographing of stars and the Milky Way. With his unwavering commitment to advancing aerospace engineering and composite materials, San is poised to make significant contributions to the field and beyond.
