Meet your A/AA NextGenNetwork Committee

Lee Turnley – VIC Rep

About me

I graduated from Swinburne University in 2007 with Bachelor’s Degrees in Engineering and Science, majoring in Biotechnology. Swinburne offered a 12-month work experience option as part of my course and I was fortunate enough to gain a role at Henkel Australia, working technical R&D and customer support for their Automotive Adhesive and Sealants division. I worked within this role for 2.5 years whilst finishing my studies.

On graduation I started with Boeing Aerostructures Australia as a Manufacturing Engineer supporting 787 Fabrication. After 9 years with the company, I have spent 6 years in R & D, helping define the future of resin infused composite structure, and have recently transitioned back into production, supporting 787 Assembly.  Part way through a 2 year Boeing Leadership program, I am hoping to continue the path to becoming a technical leader, focusing on design for manufacture.

Why I got involved with NextGenNetwork

I have always had a passion for helping the future generations of leaders and in the past have been involved with Student Speakers programs and Women in STEM projects for both Swinburne and Boeing. I originally joined the NextGenNetwork to help grow my own network and meet likeminded individuals in both the Women in Aviation and the NextGen groups. I joined the committee in 2017 to help shape events so that our members can get the most out of these amazing networking opportunities and grow their skills.

What I love most about being on the committee

I think being on the committee has allowed me to grow my own knowledge of the industry and I have gotten to know some truly inspiring individuals who make up our committee. Being a relatively new member, I am still finding my feet, but I would say I have achieved my goal in getting to shape the events and get more out of every opportunity.

Why should you get involved

Expanding your network is so crucial to finding new opportunities. Going to the events will help grow your knowledge of our industry and give you insights into how different organizations function. Getting around and talking to other attendees WILL grow your network. Being on the committee gives you opportunity to shape these events to further grow not only yourself but all members and further develop your network.
