Melbourne a Winner in Air Traffic Management

Everyone knows Melbourne is Australia’s sporting capital, but very few Australians know that in the advanced world of Air Traffic Management systems, Melbourne is a global centre of excellence thanks to 20 years of investment by the world’s leading ATM company, Thales.

The newly appointed head of Thales’s ATM business in Australia, Markus Fritz, will give his insights into how Thales has developed a business in Melbourne employing more than 400 highly skilled staff and generating more than a billion dollars in exports, as well as helping maintain Australia’s high levels of air safety as the technology provider to Airservices Australia.

Markus Fritz was appointed Vice President Air Traffic Management for Thales Australia and New Zealand on 02 October 2017.

Markus joined the Thales Group in Germany in 2012 and has performed different roles across a number of businesses and large projects. Prior to his arrival in Australia, Markus held senior management positions in Land & Air Systems, Air Traffic Management and the Ground Transportation business.

He brings numerous senior management experience to his position, following several roles in project, services and business management.

Prior to joining Thales, Markus had significant management experience across Europe and Asia in land transportation and maintenance services. He holds a number of management, project management and Electrical Power Engineering qualifications and certificates.
