ICAO Global Study on Women in Aviation
International Landmark Study
Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is conducting the very first Landmark Study on Women in Global Aviation to explore women’s experiences in the aviation sector, develop evidence-based recommendations and establish a baseline for longitudinal tracking and analytical guidance.
The study was generated by Dr Elise Stephenson, Deputy Director at ANU's Gender Institute and supported by ICAO’s Personal Training and Licensing Panel, which has been actively engaged in this work. The panel has recently finalised a study report, including recommendations on the use of unbiased and inclusive language and imagery in standards, guidance materials, licencing competency standards and observable behaviour descriptors.
Australia has participated actively in this work through its involvement on the panel.
The work is being led by a well-respected Australian gender expert, Dr Elise Stephenson and responses are required by 1 May 2026.
