Companies invited to participate in Swinburne's Industry 4.0 Higher Apprentice Program

During 2017 Swinburne University of Technology, Siemens and AiG co-developed a brand new qualification and employment opportunity directly to support Australia’s transition to a new economy and connect the nation to the fourth industrial revolution known as Industry 4.0.

The result of this collaborative partnership was a pilot Industry 4.0 Higher Apprentice Program designed and delivered by Swinburne and employment hosted at Siemens in Bayswater, Victoria. 20 students have been engaged to commence the program and undertake the 2 year Associate Degree in Applied Technologies.

The completion of the 1st year of the program has been an overwhelming success and with this in mind a second cohort of student will be developed – commencing in March 2018. This new intake takes the program further than the pilot and gives organisations the opportunity to participate too.

Interested companies are invited to hire students to become part of the 2018 intake. Students are employed by a host employer and attend University program blocks for 6-8 week periods followed by similar periods of applied learning in the workplace. In total each Apprentice undertakes 22 weeks of full time study in each year with 26 weeks in the workplace and 4 weeks annual leave. The program therefore, is faciliated by a true applied learning model.

The program is the first accredited course in Industry 4.0 in Australia and is an excellent opportuntity to develop a future ready workforce or upskill an existing workforce for organisations transitioning to Advanced Manufacturing, Digital Business Models or Industry 4.0 implementation.
