Breaking Glass Teaser & Documentary Premiere at Avalon Airshow 2023

Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia and RMIT University are proud to launch Breaking Glass, celebrating women in aviation, and to promote female participation in the industry.

Premiering the trailer for upcoming film Breaking Glass, sponsored by Aviation/Aerospace Australia, RMIT University, ISA21, and CAE, the film pays tribute to the real stories of female pioneers who defied the status quo and fought to become the first generation of female airline pilots.

Those in attendance who saw the documentary can speak to the powerful and unforgettable stories shared by airline pilots Larissa Vculek, Bonnie Tiburzi, the first female pilot for American Airlines, Turi Wideroe, the world’s first female commercial airline pilot for a major airline, Natasha Nesemann, the youngest First Officer on Boeing 787 in North America, and Mary Shipko, one of the first female pilots in the United States.

Thank you to the incredible panel of female flight training students who shared their own experiences at the event, and to our speakers and filmmakers:
/ Lea Vesic, Director | Aviation Academy at RMIT University & Non-Executive Director at Aviation/Aerospace Australia
/ Sarah McSwiney | Chair at Aviation/Aerospace Australia & Engineering Strategy and Operations Manager at Boeing Defence Australia
/ Nicolas Bori | Director at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg
/ Konrad Steuer | Producer at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg
