SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES

/ Tamara Bell | A/g Senior Adviser, Space, Defence and Space Centre of Excellence at the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade)

Tamara’s role promotes the Australian Space sector globally by providing advice, connections and support to Australian businesses for trade and investment opportunities.

She leads the UK-Australia Space Bridge and Australia Space delegations internationally drawing on her experience in stakeholder relations, industry capability development and identifying global market trends and opportunities.

Prior to joining Austrade, Tamara valued her time growing Aviation/Aerospace Australia over 10 years as Executive Director including launching the Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia initiative and the AIRSPACE Awards.

/ Andrin Tomaschett | Senior Space Systems Engineer at Nova Systems Australia and New Zealand

Nova Systems’ Andrin Tomaschett is well-used to leading teams of engineers on complex satellite projects.

In his previous role, Andrin led a team of specialist engineers to build and operate CubeSat spacecraft at UNSW Canberra Space, located at the Australian Defence Force Academy, in Canberra.  Together, the team realised one of the nation’s most complex cubesat missions and contributed to Australia’s growing sovereign space capabilities.

In the process, he was recognised by the Royal Australian Air Force as a professional and key player in successfully enabling the development, launch, and operation of three spacecraft in three years. The spacecraft continue to operate today in Low Earth Orbit which is a testament of the UNSW Canberra Space group’s achievements. Andrin was awarded the 2021 Australian Space Awards Engineer of the Year for his demonstrated leadership through these missions.

Now, he is using his unique skillset to support Nova Systems in his role as a Senior Space Systems Engineer as the company positions itself as one of Australia’s own space primes. “We are here for the long run already collaborating with key domestic technology partners and international technology transfer partners to secure and deliver government and defence space missions that put Australia back on the map and further its own capability and global contribution in space.” Andrin said.

Andrin is actively working on the joint Nova Systems – Electro Optic Systems state-of-the-art satellite manufacturing facility destined for South Jerrabomberra to support upcoming space missions while also looking to establish technology development and training facilities at UTS Tech Lab in Sydney. Andrin says “This is a serious step-up from cubesat missions as we turn our attention to spacecraft up to 500kg and an exciting time calling on a Team Australia collaboration backed by support from expert international organisations.” The facility will generate new jobs in the Canberra region, where Andrin together with a specialist team of engineers and technicians, will support assembly, integration, test and operations of multiple space missions.
