Queensland industry comes together for Women in Aviation /Aerospace

by Lawrence, Bethany H in BDA News

As a founding member of the first Women in Aviation/ Aerospace Australia (A/AA) Queensland Sub-Committee, Boeing today hosted the first gathering of industry members in Brisbane to discuss a whole-of-industry approach to advancing progress for diversity and inclusion.

The new subcommittee will provide an advisory and support role to the A/AA Board, while providing a local network to develop activities tailored to the needs of local aviation and aerospace community in Queensland.

Recognised earlier this year by Women in A/AA for her outstanding contribution to aerospace, Phantom Works Chief Operating Officer Jane Hunter said the meeting was a great opportunity to connect women from across the industry.

"Coming together like this in a coordinated effort enables Boeing to maximise our impact on championing an industry culture of diversity and inclusion," said Hunter, "I'm encouraged by the level of interest and participation we've had to date and look forward to seeing great results from what is a talented group of dedicated advocates."

Women in A/AA Executive Director Tamara Bell said, "A/AA is pleased to be launching its first state based Women in A/AA sub-committee in Queensland. This significant step demonstrates the true national reach of the association and in particular the strength of the Queensland Aviation and Aerospace industries. We look forward to offering more activities to our Queensland members and thank the committee members along with Boeing Defence Australia and Phantom Works International for their leadership in the important area of organisational strengthening."

Members currently include Boeing Defence Australia, Brisbane Airport, Royal Australian Air Force, Phantom Works International, Airbus, Archerfield Airport, BDO, Griffith University, International Aerospace Law and Policy Group, Inventra, and Nova Systems.
