A/AA Board Transition

As notified to members during the AGM in October 2019, A/AA has undergone a transition of directors gradually over the past six months with many directors completing their term on the A/AA board. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the following departing board members for their professional and expert guidance to the association over the past years. Firstly thank you to Ken McLean who has also filled the CEO role for a period of his directorship, a special thanks to Jane Ward, Justin Wastnage and Victoria Keesing for their advice and strategic direction for the board and sub-committee’s. An honourable mention to Linda Spurr stepping down as Deputy Chair and BARC Chair. Linda formed the Board Audit and Risk Committee for A/AA to oversight governance and finance for the association and the directors. Linda has ensured the ongoing financial position and provided a strong equity position for A/AA. Linda will continue to execute the Workforce Innovation Training Fund grant through until midyear, this program has developed the Aviation/Aerospace Fundamentals Course consisting of 20 aviation and aerospace focussed micro-credentials.

I am pleased to announced Sarah McSwiney has assumed the role of Deputy Chair and we welcome Aneesha Varghese to the board in the role as Chair of the Board Audit and Risk Committee. Aneesha is a Chartered Accountant and member of AICD with board experience particular in the finance, audit and risk areas. From the academic industry a warm welcome to Professor Pier Marzocca, Associate Dean of Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and Aviation , RMIT University and Professor Zheng Lei, Chair Department of Aviation, Swinburne University of Technology.  Jason McHeyzer, Regional Manager, Southern Region, Regulatory Services and Surveillance Division at CASA and Bobby Pavlickovski, Operations Manager, Airspace Mobility Solutions, Thales Australia ATM brings their leadership to A/AA will make a signification contribution to the A/AA board.

During this unprecedented challenge for the sector I have extended my tenure on the board and will remain as Chair of Aviation/Aerospace Australia throughout 2020 providing continuity for the association.
